In which particular area of Southern Italy & Sicily is the regional cuisine closest to Italian-American food? - chicago italian sausage

I know that the vast majority of Italian-Americans have their roots everywhere south of Naples, Sicily. My question is if we to think of thick, rich, spicy red sauce, as seen in the kitchens of Chicago or New York or hot Italian sausage, cheese ravioli, or Nice, this particular area of southern Italy and Sicily were similar foods, as Thi on a restaurant menu. I know you see something not in Rome, or farther north.
